Steve
O'Grady is a percussionist, arranger, and music educator
living in Greenville, North Carolina. He can be seen performing in
the Greenville NC area with several bands, including the
Victor Hudson Band
and
Soul Tree.
Recently, Steve was a touring member of
Gongzilla.
Steve is endorsed by
Trick Drums,
Sabian Cymbals
,
Remo Heads, and
Qwikstix Percussion Accessories.
In addition, Steve serves on the
Vic Firth Education Team
through an endorsement for the top educators in the percussion
field.
As a music educator, Steve is the percussion instructor for several
high school drumlines in the area including Kinston High School, and
Rocky Mount High School. In addition, he has served as an advisor to
the East Carolina University marching percussion line. He also
teaches many private students. Steve arranges music for the schools
he teaches for, and is published by
Row-Loff Productions.
Originally from the southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island
areas, Steve began playing at the age of 8 years old. He studied
drum set playing with Bobby Carreiro and J. Craig Lilly. In high
school Steve was drumline captain for the
Dartmouth High School Drumline
under the direction of
Tom Aungst.
During Steve's high school career, the drumline became
WGI World Champions, and Steve
created the first
"Night of Percussion and Dance,"
a tradition that continues today. In college, Steve studied
percussion with Adam Mason and
Jamie Eckert,
and had several master classes in ethnic percussion with
Lalo Davila,
and
Paschal Younge.
Steve's playing style fuses the precision of corps-style performance
with the flexibility of jazz idioms. This unique stylistic hybrid
has made Steve a much sought-after performer and teacher.
