Matthew Stevens

  QwikStix Reference:   User

  Bio:

As witnesses to his performances will attest, Matthew loves playing the drums. Live or in the studio; backing a star such as Rebecca Lynn Howard ("Forgive"), Canadian hit-maker Paul Brandt, or a traditionalist like honky-tonker Marty Brown, Matthew brings to each gig a lively expression of the pure joy of making music.

"I love music with a groove," says Matthew Stevens, drummer and vocalist. "Whatever the type of music, my philosophy is 'play the feel, and keep it real.' Technical mastery of ones instrument is important, of course, but there's more than just that. Music should be an expression of what you feel."

While his rock-solid rhythm keeps the band anchored, his energy and enthusiasm are contagious to his audience as well as to his bandmates.

Matthew's influences range from rockers Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones) and Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp) to Nashville session aces Eddie Bayers and Paul Leim.

He has studied under world renown drummer/composer Charlie Adams (Yanni, Clinician)

At age 32, Matthew has listened to, absorbed and performed in a wide variety of musical idioms, continuously refining his unique personal style while expanding his repertoire.

Experience. Creativity. Dependability. Personality. Add them up, and you get Matthew Stevens, drummer and vocalist.

Comment:   .." Being a Nashville session and touring drummer, playing with a click is a must. That is why I use the Qwikstix Cd Player Holder  as a metronome holder and clamp it to my hihat stand. This works great and is easy to transport to my next gig. Along with the stick holders being very sturdy, they look great too. I'm glad to be apart of the Qwikstix family."

Paul Brandt says of Matthew: He's "a dynamic, exciting, solid drumming machine, and I'm proud to have him on my 2004 tour!"
